ZAMBOANGA CITY: Suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen snatched a construction foreman near Indanan town in Sulu on Thursday.
Police said Remigio Villanueva Lingayan, a native of Zamboanga, was travelling to Jolo from Maimbung town when he was seized in the vicinity of Kan Islam village.
Soldiers and policemen pursued the gunmen but failed to catch up with them. There was no immediate statement from the town’s mayor or village officials, but police said the search is going on for Villanueva.
“We are still searching for the victims,” said provincial chief Senior Supt. Abraham Orbita on Friday.
No group claimed responsibility for the latest abduction, but the town is notorious for Abu Sayyaf kidnapping and many victims had been taken in Indanan in recent years.
