A POLICE officer was killed and three others were wounded after a group of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels stormed a police station in a remote village in Bukidnon province dawn Thrusday, official said.
Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor, Philippine National Police spokesman, quoting reports coming from the field, said that unknown number of NPA rebels—on board seven vehicles—attacked the Kibawe Municipal Police station at about 5 a.m., triggering a firefight between the police and the rebels.
The firefight between two sides lasted for about 40 minutes and resulted to the death of SPO2 Rodelfin Alonzo. Three policemen, identified as PO3 Jona Roban and PO2s Johnrey Manigo and Elizar Lacoste, were also wounded in the incident.
Reports said that the rebels took several firearms from the police station before fleeing. The rebels were last seen heading towards Barangay Tumaras, also of the same town.
