• Cop killed in Batangas ambush

BATANGAS: A 38-year-old policeman was gunned down while his wife remains in critical condition when they were ambushed by motorcycle riding gunmen in Tanauan City on Monday morning.

Tanauan police chief Supt. Christopher Olazo identified the fatality as PO2 Estratuto Bagsic, a resident of Barangay Janopol, Tanauan City and presently assigned at Regional Headquarters Support Group in Camp Vicente Lim in Canlubang Laguna.

Bagsic’s wife Agnes was rushed to CP Reyes Hospital after a stray-bullet hit the left side of her body and pierced through the right side of her chest.

Bagsic’s four children were unhurt and are now in the custody of the Tanauan City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) for counselling after suffering from severe fear and anxiety.

Invesitigation showed that the Bagsic couple were about to send their children to school on a L-300 van ( TLR-658) when they were waylaid upon reaching Barangay Santor around 6:30 a.m.

“Kahit sugatan naitakbo pa ni PO2 Bagsic ang sasakyan nila nang ilang metro hanggang abutan uli sila ng mga suspek malapit sa gate ng DBP Technopark bago pa uli sya pinagbabaril ng malapitan,” Olazo narrated.

Olazo said the suspects were shouting invective words while shooting PO2 Bagsic, showing that the gunmen had a deep rage against the police officer.

After the shooting, the suspects fled on a motorcycle, carting along the policeman’s firearms, towards Tali- say town.

Tanauan police have yet to determine the motive and the persons behind the incident.
