Cop killed in fire at Iligan City Comelec office

A police officer was killed in the fire that struck the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Iligan City early Wednesday morning.

Radio reports said the blaze took place at about  2:20 a.m. and was extinguished by 3 a.m.

Killed in the fire was a policeman initially identified as PO1 Rey Borinaga, a member of the city’s public safety company.

He was among the police personnel tasked to guard the Comelec office and election documents.


Report said police have taken into custody a 47-year-old man who was said to have lost in the recent barangay elections.

Investigators are verifying if the losing bet was involved in the fire. PNA

  1. As per my observation with this man, he is suffering a psychological problem. Please consider this issue, as of the background the said man was filed his candidacy as brgy councilor in brgy. rogongon but unfortunately he was not able to win the election and at the dawn of Wednesday the news came but considering his brain/psychological status we may able to determine the cause of the said incidents
