A police officer was killed in the fire that struck the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Iligan City early Wednesday morning.
Radio reports said the blaze took place at about 2:20 a.m. and was extinguished by 3 a.m.
Killed in the fire was a policeman initially identified as PO1 Rey Borinaga, a member of the city’s public safety company.
He was among the police personnel tasked to guard the Comelec office and election documents.
Report said police have taken into custody a 47-year-old man who was said to have lost in the recent barangay elections.
Investigators are verifying if the losing bet was involved in the fire. PNA
