Cordillera wants to host 2016 Palarong Pambansa

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will be bidding to host the 2016 edition of the Palarong Pambansa.

Dr. Ellen Donato, Regional Director of the Department of Education (DepEd), said that CAR has the ability and needed facilities to stage the national multisporting event. She mentioned the upgrading of the Baguio Athletic Bowl and the Benguet Sports Complex as possible venues along with the facilities of the different schools and universities here.

The impressive showing of the Cordillera athletes, landing third overall in the 2015 Palarong Pambansa held in Tagum City, has encouraged the “political leaders to support our bid to host next year’s Palarong Pambansa.”

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan vowed to support the move saying the Baguio Athletic Bowl is now being upgraded and will have a modern rubberized track oval imported from Germany.

In congratulating the athletes, he emphasized that despite the Cordillera being the youngest region with small population compared to other regions “the athletes did well and excel in their own respective sports because of collective efforts.”

The CAR placed fourth in 2014 held in Laguna.
