Corona’s arraignment reset anew

The Sandiganbayan’s Third Division deferred again the arraignment of former Chief Justice Renato Corona on perjury and breach of conduct charges in connection with allegedly inaccurate declarations in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) in 2003 to 2010. The arraignment was reset to June 20 pending a motion to quash filed by Corona, Third Division Clerk of Court Dennis Pulma told The Manila Times on Tuesday. It was the third time that the arraignment was canceled. Originally scheduled on October 2015, it was reset to January 26 pending resolution of a motion for reconsideration by Corona on the court’s ruling finding probable cause. It was postponed anew on January 26 and reset to April 5 pending resolution of the motion to quash wherein he questioned the charge sheets. Corona’s camp was asking the court to void the charge sheets on the ground that the facts alleged do not constitute a criminal offense both for the crime of perjury or violation of Section 8 in relation to Section 11 of Republic Act (R.A.) No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees). EINA TOLENTINO
