    Unseeded Brent Signmond Cortes and Rupert Ohrelle Tortal shocked their foes on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the 10-under unisex in the 33rd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open presented by Cebuana Lhuillier and Metro Global Holdings yesterday at the PCA indoor shell clay courts in Paco, Manila.

    Cortes stunned fourth pick Macie Carlos, 4-0, 4-1, while Tortal clobbered Sultan Kudarat native Minette April Bentillo, 4-1, 4-0.

    Cortez is expected to go all-out anew as faces top seed Miguel Luis Vicencio, who trumped Marc Andrei Jarata, 4-2, 4-0, so as Tortal who will meet No. 2 Rafael Liangco, who defeated Mindanao bet Prince Najeeb Langitao, 5-3, 2-4, 4-1.

    In the boys’ 12-under, second seed Aljon Talatayod displayed his tough form against sixth pick Jan Harold Trillanes, 6-1, 6-3, to secure his spot in the semifinals.

    Talatayod will meet No. 3 Jose Angelo Aparte, who outclassed Alfred Doloroso, 6-4, 6-2, in the next round.

    Unheralded Daniel Estanislao 3rd also continued his winning streak with 6-2, 7-5 squeaker against Sherwin Villacorte in the tournament supported by Dunlop, Fujidenzo/Whirlpool, Babolat, Hon. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, Head, Accel, Malate Bayview Mansion, Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils. Inc., Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company Inc. and Seno Hardware.

    Estanislao will have his hands full in the semis when he battled Lawrence Quitara, who blanked Ralph Joseph Pagtalunan, 6-0, 6-0.

    In other results, top seed Miles Vitaliano, second pick Alexandra Eala and No. 4 Lourdes Pe dominated in the girls’ 12-under to barge to the quarterfinals.

    Vitaliano held off Kiana De Asis, 7-5, 6-1; Eala defeated Devie Pearl Patoc, 6-2, 6-0; and Pe downed Kryshana Brazal, 6-3, 6-1, in the tourney supported by United Auctioneers Inc. Foton, Philippine Sports Commission, TLH Sports & Wellness Center/Solinco, Avida Land Corporation, Stronghold Insurance, Ryobi MHI and GMA 7.
