Reigning champion Lee Van Corteza and 2012 titlist Dennis Orcollo will spearhead the country’s bid in the 2014 China Open 9-Ball scheduled on June 1 to 9 in Shanghai, China.
Joining Corteza and Orcollo are veteran campaigners Carlo Biado, Johann Chua, Warren Kiamco, Ramil Gallego and Jeffrey de Luna.
Corteza ruled the 2013 edition after blasting Fu Che Wei of Taiwan in their Race-to-11 championship showdown.
“It’s going to be a tough one this year as we expect a lot of good players coming in. But we’re ready and all set. I’ll just take it one game at a time,” said Corteza, who is currently No. 2 in the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) world ranking.
Orcollo, for his part, also vowed to give his best shot in the tournament which is expected to lure participants from England, Taiwan, Poland, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, US and host China.
“Right now, I’m practicing a minimum of three hours everyday to make sure that I’m well prepared before going to China,” said Orcollo, winner of six titles this year including the Derby Classic Master of the Table and the US Open One Pocket 2014.
After the China Open, the Filipino cue masters are also scheduled to take part in the 2014 WPA World 9-Ball Championships on June 16 to 27 in Doha, Qatar.
