Cotabato City imposes strict firecrackers ban

COTABATO CITY: The city government has imposed a strict ban on the use of firecrackers during the celebration of New Year including Muslim festivities like Eid’l Fitr. Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi signed Executive Order 185 that strictly prohibits the use of pyrotechnics during special events to include New Year and Eid’l Fitr as part of her administration’s community-protection efforts. Halima Satol Ibrahim, city information officer, said the local police have been ordered to enforce the order. Guiani-Sayadi also asked both the police and the Army’s 5th Special Forces Battalion to help in securing the 37 villages and arrest revellers who would use guns to greet the New Year and Eid’l Fit’r, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramadan.
