ILOILO CITY: The city council here will maintain its independence but at the same time vows to support and cooperate with the executive branch on development projects for the city. This was clarified by reelected city Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa 3rd while preparing for the turnover of chairmanship and membership of the 28 standing council committees by July 1, 2013. Espinosa said the city council will definitely not be a stamping pad of the city mayor but would rather work closely with reelected City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. Mabilog and Espinosa both ran under the Liberal Party that won by a landslide in the last May 13 midterm elections. So far, Espinosa is completing the room assignments for all the 12 city councilors, seven of whom were reelected and five are new councilors. The committee chairmanship will be completed soon and will be recognized on the first council session on July 3, 2013.
