Councilor arrested for drug trade in Calapan

A 39-YEAR-OLD barangay councilor was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for selling methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, during a buy-bust operation in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on November 28.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the arrested suspect as Henry Consul, incumbent barangay kagawad of Barangay Lalud, Calapan City, single and has been watch-listed as a pusher.

At around 2 p.m., elements of PDEA Regional Office 4B (PDEA RO4B) under the supervision of Director Bryan Babang arrested Consul after he sold one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu to an undercover PDEA agent who acted as poseur-buyer.

The suspect will be charged with violating Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of the Republic Act (RA) 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Two hours later that day, the same operatives conducted a buy-bust operation at the Provincial Capitol Compound, Barangay Camilmil, Calapan City, leading to the arrest of Shirley Sagun y Alcoba, alias Shey, 50, married, and a resident of Barangay Tibag, Calapan City.

Confiscated from her were two pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing shabu.

Cacdac said that Sagun is the live-in partner of Vermon Goco who was earlier arrested by elements of PDEA RO4B and is presently detained at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail in Calapan City.

Sagun will also be charged with possession of dangerous drugs under RA 9165.
