Court asked to deny Valdez’ furlough plea

THE prosecution is opposing the request of former sectoral Rep. Edgar Valdez that he be allowed to leave his place of detention on December 27 to attend to wedding of his son. Valdez is detained at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Taguig (Metro Manila) over a P57-million plunder case in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund. In a comment, the prosecution asked the court to deny Valdez’ request for lack of merit having no sufficient reason, adding that he is facing the case of plunder which is a nonbailable offense. Valdez is seeking a furlough from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 27 to attend the wedding ceremony and reception of his son Renjo.
