• Court asks: Where’s Benhur’s computer?

THE Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division on Thursday asked the prosecution panel whether they tried to look at the personal computer that Benhur Luy used at the JLN (Janet Lim-Napoles) Corporation’s office.

Associate Justice Jose Hernandez raised the matter after the court asked Luy several questions regarding his external hard drive, particularly on whether or not the files in it were tampered.

The said storage device contains the daily disbursements of the company, which Luy said he recorded.

Luy, who was a former finance officer of the firm, testified yesterday at the hearing on former Representative and now Gov. Rizalina Seachon-Lanete of Masbate.

Prosecutor Jacinto Dela Cruz said they were not able to search for the computer but the prosecution panel will discuss the issue.

Lanete, who is detained at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig, is asking the court to let her post bail for her provisional liberty over a plunder charge in connection with the pork barrel scam.

She allegedly received kickbacks totaling P108.405 million from 2004 to 2010 by coursing her Priority Development Assistance Fund or pork barrel allocation to non-governmental organizations supposedly run by businesswoman Napoles.

Meanwhile, Napoles, who has her own bail petition, is serving life sentence at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong after a Makati court found her guilty of serious illegal detention filed by Luy.
