• Court convicts QC ex-postal employee

THE Regional Trial Court Branch 216 of Quezon City (Metro Manila) sentenced a former cashier of the QC central post office to a maximum of seven years in prison after she was found guilty of accepting P200,000 personal check representing payment for postage stamps. In a case filed by the Ombudsman, Presiding Judge Alfonso Ruiz 2nd found Ma. Cristina Orario guilty of gross negligence for accepting the personal check which turned out to be a closed account. Section 3(e) of the anti-graft law, states that public officers are prohibited from causing undue injury to any party, or giving any private party unwarranted benefits, advantage or preference in the discharge of their official functions through manifest partiality, evident bad faith or gross inexcusable negligence.
