A Pasay City court on Thursday junked the request of a pro-life group to stop an international youth conference on sexuality and reproductive health in Manila, whose agenda reportedly advocates abortion.
Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 110 Judge Petronilo Sulla Jr. denied the petition for a temporary restraining order of Pro-life Philippines Foundation on the conference.
The four-day 7th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights is being held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
Sulla, however, scheduled on February the main case of preliminary injunction against the event, which Pro-life alleged that it promotes abortion in the country.
In their petition, Pro-life President Eric Manalang said the event advocates abortion and its availability to women and the youth.
Manalang’s group held a picket outside the PICC at the opening of the conference on Tuesday to demonstrate their opposition.
But Jeross Aguilar, chairperson of the Youth Steering Committee of the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines, said the conference aimed to provide the youth of the Asia-Pacific region a venue to discuss sexual and reproductive health (RH) matters.
But despite failing to secure a TRO to stop the event, Manalang said they are still hoping to get a favorable ruling adding that “it’s not the end of the world” for them.
