Court orders PNP to return Napoles to Fort Sto. Domingo

A Makati court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles back to her detention cell at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna after almost two months in a public hospital.

Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda denied Napoles’ motion for an extended stay at the government-run Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) for lack of merit.

In a two-page order, Alameda directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to return Napoles to Fort Sto. Domingo not later than Friday (May 23).

“The Director of Police Regional Office IV-A or any of his deputies is requested to provide adequate number of security personnel to escort the accused on her return to Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa, Laguna from Ospital ng Makati,” the judge said in his order.

On March 31, Napoles was taken to OsMak where she underwent an operation to remove a tumor in her uterus last April 23.

In his decision, Alameda cited the testimonies of Napoles’ personal doctors, who gave the go-signal for her discharge on May 5.

Dr. Magnolia Ruth Priscilla Bermudez, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Calabarzon Health Services and Napoles’ doctor in charge, testified that they are ready to receive Napoles back in Fort Sto. Domingo.

Bermudez also said arrangements could be made for the patient, like bringing in more electric fans to her detention cell.

Napoles’ lawyers and attending physicians have requested a very clean and cold room where she can fully recover.

During the hearing, Napoles’ lawyer Stephen David maintained that his client needed enough time at the hospital to finish her supplemental affidavit with regard to the pork barrel fund scam.

But Alameda shot down David’s manifestation, saying the court had nothing to do with the pork barrel scam case.

The court also noted that the prosecution should be the one asking for an extended stay if it is with regard to the pork barrel scam.

But Special Prosecutor Christopher Garvida said they were not aware that Napoles was preparing her supplemental affidavit during her confinement.

Alameda also said the facilities in Napoles’ detention cell were sufficient for her needs.

Napoles is detained for a serious illegal detention case filed by pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.

  1. Janet Napoles must be sent back without any preconditions from her lawyers and doctors. Electric fans would suffice for her. I had similar surgery procedure years ago, which only required three-day stay in the hospital, and did not have any complications. This shameless woman is making up all the excuses for her own comfort. Make her pay for what she has done, period!
