The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has slapped Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Board Member George Castillo with a 90-day preventive suspension. The order stemmed from the graft and malversation charge filed against the officer for the alleged anomalies in the implementation of the Aid to the Poor Program. Although Castillo argued that the suspension would deprive his constituents of essential representation, the anti-graft court granted the prosecution’s motion to preventively suspend him. “The fear of the accused that his constituents will be paralyzed for ninety (90) days when he is preventively suspended is remote. [T]here will still remain 10 other Board Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Zamboanga Sibugay who can meet as such,” the court ruled.
