A was man shot to death by his relative on Tuesday afternoon while he was gathering ‘tuba’ or palm-tree wine in a hinterland village in San Luis, Agusan del Sur, police reports said on Thursday.
Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame identified the victim as Reynante Cano, 43, of Barangay Ines in San Luis; the suspect, Teodoro Andres Cano. The reports said that the shooting occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the hinterland area of Purok 5, Sitio Lilio in the same village where the victim was collecting hidyup or “tuba.”
As Reynante was collecting hidyup, the suspect approached the palm tree and shot the victim with a revolver and hitting him thrice resulting in his instant death, the reports said.
The reports said that the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the authorities after the shooting along with the firearm he used in the killing.
Investigation revealed that personal grudge and land dispute could be the motive for the killing.
