LAOAC, Pangasinan: The son of a former mayor here who allegedly masterminded the killing of a policeman and wounding of his companion in San Carlos City and listed as the top drug dealer in Pangasinan’s 5th District was arrested on Sunday.
Police Provincial Director, Senior Supt. Ronald Oliver-Lee, identified the suspect as Rufino Westrimundo Tabayoyong Jr., son of the former first town Mayor Rufino Sr.
Lee told The Manila Times that Tabayoyong was arrested by joint operatives of Provincial Intelligence Branch, Task Force Anti-Illegal Gambling, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Provincial Public Safety Company at his house in Barangay Panaga where a hand grenade, a calibre .45 pistol with ammunition, four plastic sachets of shabu, two weighing scales and drug paraphernalia were also recovered.
Three separate charges for illegal possession of explosives, firearm and ammunitions against Tabayoyong before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor as well as cases for illegal possession of prohibited drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Tabayoyong refused to surrender under Oplan Tokhang and masterminded the killing of Police Officer (PO)3 Jimboy Agtarap and wounded P01 Rachael Cansino, both of the San Carlos City Police intelligence unit on June 6.
Witnesses have pointed to Tabayoyng as the mastermind in Agtarap’s killing and wounding of Cansino who busted the Tabayoyong Gang in San Carlos City.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is studying whether to remove Laoac town from the list of drug-free municipalities in Pangasinan following the arrest of Tabayoyong.
PDEA had declared Laoac a drug-free municipality in Region 1 and the third municipality in the country.
