THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it respects Senator Miriam Defensor- Santiago’s comments on issues involving Director General Alan Purisima, who has been accused by his critics of allegedly being involved in various anomalous and illegal acts.
PNP spokesman Senior Supt.Wilben Mayor, said in a press briefing that they respect the statements of Santiago in as much as we are a democratic country.
He was reacting to the statement of Santiago that Purisima should take a leave of absence and step down.
Mayor stressed that the matter was a personal decision for Purisma and only the PNP chief can decide on the same.
He added that the entire PNP organization remains on a high morale and the criticisms being heaped on Purisima further inspire them to work harder and provide the public the best possible service it deserves.
Among the issues being raised against Purisima is his alleged ill-gotten wealth that included his alleged mansion in San Leonardo in Nueva Ecija and other prime properties in Metro Manila.
The Coalition of Filipino Consumers (CFC) and the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) have filed charges of graft and corruption against the Purisima.
