Crowds build up at Metro bus terminals

Commuters have started arriving at bus terminals in Metro Manila for trips to the provinces where they will spend Holy Week.

Among the terminals are those of DLTB, Victory and Philtranco in Pasay City.

The buses of the three big transportation companies were all leaving fully booked.

Erwin Jaboyo, who is waiting for a ride to Legazpi City in Albay at DLTB Co. said he had been waiting for several hours at the terminal.

“I hope they should add more trips so that commuters will not having a hard time,” Jaboyo said.

Some passengers at the Araneta Bus Terminal in Cubao, Quezon City, had been waiting for almost two days for a Samar-bound bus.

One of them, Janet Jabido, said there was no available ticket for Eastern Samar trips.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has advised the public to leave Metro Manila as early as Holy Monday to avoid the traffic jam during the Holy Week exodus.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino warned of a gridlock on Edsa as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues its reblocking work on Holy Week.

Tolentino said 33 sections of Edsa’s southbound lane will be repaired until Good Friday, while 38 sections of the northbound lane will be completed by Easter Sunday.
