• Cruise ships prefer Boracay

ILOILO CITY: The sixth international cruise ship arrived in Boracay Island on April 8 while another one will make its maiden call at the crown jewel tourism island in Western Visayas on April 18. This will make Boracay host to 20 cruise ships from 2014 until April 2016 and to about seven more cruise ships until the end of 2016, according to Department of Tourism regional director Helen Catalbas. The two cruise ships are the MS Seabourn Sojourn with 450 passengers and 350 crews that docked in Boracay on Friday, while MS Insignia will make its maiden call on April 18. Catalbas said the island is always ready to accommodate cruise ships and their passengers. Catalbas added that DOT 6 is also looking for other possible tourist spots in Aklan to be included on the list of destinations for cruise ship passengers who would like to add more to their shore excursions. There are other developing and growing tourist spots in Aklan that can be promoted to visitors. Northern Iloilo and Guimaras are also eyed to become ports of call for cruise ships in Western Visayas.
