Veteran coach Yeng Guiao has signed a three-year contract with the Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Road Warriors. He will be NLEX’s coach starting the Philippine Basketball Association Season 42 in November.
Guiao said that it was NLEX’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that convinced him to accept the offer, “It’s not all about the money,” Guiao told The Manila Times in a phone interview on Friday. “NLEX has a CSR program that will benefit my constituents in Pampanga. NLEX also owns the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway. There’s an opportunity that’s hard to surpass.”
Guiao did not divulge the other details of the contract.
Guiao was vice-governor of Pampanga in 2007 and became the representative of its first district in 2013. He lost in the congressional race during the 2016 elections.
Guiao added that he left the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to the able hands of Caloy Garcia. Under Guiao, Rain or Shine won two titles and had six finals and nine semifinals appearances.
Guiao is scheduled to meet the Road Warriors on Tuesday.
“As of now, there’s no decision yet because I’m still going to meet the players next week. Regarding the October 30 rookie draft, we have no plan so far. We are just waiting for aspiring players to apply for the meantime,” he said.
