The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) named honorary consul of Georgia in the Philippines Buddy Cunanan as its new chairman.
Cunanan is currently one of the board of directors of San Miguel Corporation-Hong Kong. He graduated at Ateneo de Manila University where he also earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA).
PSL President Susan Papa expressed elation over the appointment of Cunanan.
“We welcome Mr. Cunanan to the PSL organization. We have gained huge strides in Philippine swimming with our regular monthly and international competitions as well as our continuing grassroots program and we believe we can further strengthen the organization and expand its reach with his expertise,” said Papa.
Cunanan, who speaks German and Cambodian, has a wide range of interest among them amateur aviation (micro-light pilot, certified in Southern Africa) as well as safari and wildlife. He is also the consultant for international affairs of the National Parks Development Committee and a television host for the Global News Network (GNN). He is a columnist of The Manila Times, consultant for Africa of International Container Terminal Services, Inc., special adviser of the Somali Petroleum Corp. and President of the Philippines–Somalia Business and Friendship Association, Inc.
From January 2009 to December 2010, Cunanan served as consultant for international relations of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) where he built strong relationships between the Philippines and other countries such as Germany, Russia, South Korea, Brazil, Finland, Iran, Taiwan, China, Georgia, India, South Africa, Bangladesh, Argentina, among others.
