THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) destroyed some P22 million worth of fake cigarettes amid orders from the finance department to intensify its crackdown on illegal trade and other forms of smuggling.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapena on Thursday and newly-appointed Manila International Container Port (MICP) Collector Vener Baquiran led the destruction of the smuggled items at the Baseco compound in Port Area, Manila.
