Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon has ordered a Customs police officer, Captain Arnel Baylosis, who is facing corruption charges, to be assigned to Jolo, Sulu. Faeldon disclosed that Bayosis allegedly received millions of pesos in bribes since 2012. “Four individuals who had direct transactions with him testified through affidavits that previously, since 2012, they have been giving [him]bribe money. It’s called in the Customs bureau tara, amounting to at least P100-220 million monthly,” the commissioner said. Baylosis’ name cropped up after a follow-up investigation of more than 90 containers of smuggled red onions earlier seized by the bureau. Faeldon said the case against Baylosis was forwarded to the Department of Justice.
