Bureau of Customs (BOC) has identified at least 18 employees who are being investigated “administratively” for allegedly processing rice shipments without import permits in 2013.
Customs Deputy Commissioner for Enforcement Group Jessie Dellosa refused to name the employees but said that they are from the agency’s assessment and examiners’ department of the Manila International Container Port and Port of Manila.
He explained that assessment and examiner personnel are responsible for processing rice shipments.
“That maybe [the reason]why they are involved here,” he said in Filipino. “We still have to find out if they are guilty. They have the right time to explain themselves.”
An official of the BOC said that charges would be filed within this week at Dellosa’s office.
