Customs seizes P4.6-M of smuggled rice in Davao

JOINT operatives of the Bureau of Customs (BoC) and other law enforcement agencies of the government have intercepted at the Port of Davao a vessel carrying 250 tons of smuggled rice worth at least P4.6 million.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapena said on Wednesday that based on the apprehension report, the vessel was apprehended last November 19 and was found to contain  5,000 bags of rice that was believed to have originated from Malaysia.

“The shipment is now in the custody of Philippine Navy in Panacan, Davao City and will be turned over to BOC-Davao for inventory and disposal,” Lapena said. WILLIAM DEPASUPIL
