• D-backs fire GM Stewart, manager Hale

LOS ANGELES: The Arizona Diamondbacks sacked general manager Dave Stewart and manager Chip Hale on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) a day after the team finished its losing 69-93 season. Stewart’s dismissal ends a two-year reign at the Diamondbacks. Stewart appointed Hale a few weeks after his appointment in 2014. The duo started brightly, improving to 79 wins in 2015, up from 64 the previous year. But the team’s development stalled this season, and despite the acquisitions of pitcher Zack Greinke and 2015 All-Star pitcher Shelby Miller, was never in contention for a playoff berth.
