SAN MATEO, Isabela: The Department of Agriculture (DA) has awarded some P44-million worth of seeds to Isabela farmers belonging to irrigators associations of the National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MRIIS).
DA Secretary Proceso Alcala said 25,000 bags of certified seeds worth P25 million and 4,000 bags of hybrid rice seeds worth P19 million were given to farmer-irrigators.
“Our target is to lessen the production expenses of our farmers by providing rice seeds assistance from the government,” Alcala said.
Besides rice seeds, Alcala also awarded 15 bags of monggo seeds worth P15,000 to the irrigators associations to boost production of the beans in the country’s monggo capital.
Nemesio Yadao, president of the NIA-MRIIS federation of irrigators association who also received both rice and monggo seeds assistance, thanked the DA for supporting farmers.
The DA secretary awarded the rice seeds during the rice harvest festival held at the village of San Marcos here right after the groundbreaking ceremony of the Japan International Cooperation Agency-sponsored mini-hydro power plant here earlier this week.
