FARMERS in Apayao province are expected to boost their food production with more than P184-million projects and equipment assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA). Secretary Emmanuel Piñol turned over P100 million in livelihood projects, P41 million in farm machinery and equipment, 300 shallow tube wells and P17 million for its Special Area for Agricultural Development program. He vowed to immediately release the long-awaited corn-processing facility for corn farmers in the province. As counterpart of the project, Rep. Eleanor Begtang committed to give P4 million while Apayao Gov. Elias Bulut Jr. pledged another P5 million. Piñol mentioned President Duterte’s commitment on free irrigation starting in 2017 and support to the rice farmers for attainment of rice self-sufficiency by 2019.
