• Dagupan councilor wounded in shooting


    DAGUPAN CITY: A village councilman is in serious condition at a local hospital after he was shot along Rivera Street in Barangay IV in Dagupan City at about 9:00 p.m. of Saturday.

    Johnny Baniqued, 44, incumbent councilman of Barangay IV and owner and manager of a realty company, was rushed to the Nazareth General Hospital where he was operated on.

    He suffered gunshot wounds in the lower and upper parts of his left chest and buttock by bullets fired from caliber .45 pistol and is in serious condition.

    The police said Baniqued was sitting in front of the 4M.s canteen and Pigar-Pigar Store and was having a conversation with the owner of the canteen when two males riding on a motorcycle came from the east direction, stopped and opened fire on him.

    Witnesses said although hit, Baniqued ran to his car where he hid under it. But one of the gunmen followed him and fired some more shots at the victim successively.

    Four slugs of caliber .45 pistol and eight fired cartridges were found by investigators from the crime scene.
