DAIMLER AG, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, has donated $680,000 to the German Red Cross, with the amount intended for vital relief supplies such as tents, kitchen sets, hygiene kits and plastic sheets for the over 15,000 victims of Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines. Daimler said it also asked its employees to make donations.
“With our donation we want to help quickly and without bureaucracy to alleviate the plight of the people of the Philippines. As a global company, we take our social responsibility, especially in such crisis situations, very seriously,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The German Red Cross is represented in the Philippines since 2008 and has responded quickly to the relief efforts, Daimler said.
“With the donation of Daimler, we can supply 15,000 people with vital supplies. We are very grateful for the commitment of Daimler,” German Red Cross President Dr. Rudolf Seiter said.
