PHOENIX: Japanese pitching ace Yu Darvish took another step in his recovery by pitching off the regular mound on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) for the first time since having Tommy John elbow surgery in March.
The Texas Rangers righthander said he felt “no pain” after throwing 15 pitches to catcher Robinson Chirinos.
“I feel like I’m able to throw nice and easy, and throw the ball well,” he said. “I had no pain, no problem at all.”
The last time Darvish threw off a regular mound was on March 5, his first start during the Major League Baseball team’s 2015 spring training camp.
He left that exhibition contest after just 12 pitches with soreness and had ligament replacement surgery a week later which caused him to miss the 2015 season.
He’s expected to return to the Rangers in mid-May to early June.
