For those who knew him, the late Myron Papa was a man who was larger than life. A major player in the Makati Stock Exchange, he was quite popular in business circles, and was known to be a generous host to family, close friends, and business acquaintances.
“He loved to entertain people with only the best food and wine,” recalls his daughter and chef-restaurateur Monica Papa Eugenio. “When it came to get-togethers at home, he was very conscious about the quality of food being served, and very generous with the servings. You go home happy and well fed after a date with Myron.”
The restaurant that bears Myron’s name reflects the businessman’s love for dolce vita, and a penchant for hearty hospitality. Eugenio’s husband, Ramon, also a chef and co-owner of the establishment thought it to be a natural fit to name their establishment after a man who provided joy and contentment through good food and wine.
On June 18, Father’s Day, families are welcome to experience Myron’s at their new location on the sixth floor of Ascott Makati. The à la carte menu is replete with hearty dishes that would meet the exacting standards of the original namesake: Fresh Oysters with Foie Gras, Roasted Iberian Chicken, Tiger Prawns and U.S. Sea Scallops with Roasted Pumpkin and Scallion Sauce, among many others.
But a visit to Myron’s is never complete without partaking of Myron’s classics: the 500-gram U.S. Certified Angus steak called “The President,” a hefty dish good enough for two persons; and the beloved US Certified Angus Ribeye carving served with your favorite fixings.
The latest tribute by Mon and Monica Eugenio to the elder Myron will be a new signature drink that will debut on Father’s Day called the Marianito, a classic vermouth based cocktail with a twist of lemon, and the satisfyingly salty addition of a green olive.
The Myron’s Group operates the food and beverage department of Ascott Makati, which include Myron’s and Banquets x Myron’s; and the well-regarded outlets Flying Pan at Citadines Salcedo, and Miguelito’s in SM Fashion Hall.
