GMA Network’s Marimar stars Tom Rodriguez and Megan Young and My Faithful Husband’s Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado respectively had the romantics of Davao and Cagayan de Oro swooning over their visit to the south for a series of shows.
Marimar, which originally starred the Mexican actress Thalia (Marimar) and Eduardo Capetillo (Sergio), was first given a local Filipino flavor by GMA Network in 2007. After close to a decade, it has been brought back to life by the Tom-Megan love team that has quickly gained a huge following since the show’s premiere in August.
Shortly after, the on-screen pair joined GMA Regional TV’s participation in the annual Kadayawan Festival, where throngs of fans welcomed them at SM City Davao. Megan happily indulged them with a sultry dance number, while Tom serenaded the ladies with a set of love songs.
Besides this generation’s Marimar and Sergio, other network stars also celebrated with Davaoñeos, namely Rhian Ramos, Mike Tan, Mikael Daez, Kylie Padilla, Martin Del Rosario and Julian Trono.
Rhian and Mike met with fans at the Abreeza Mall Activity Center to thank them for supporting their recently concluded primetime series, The Rich Man’s Daughter, while Mikael invited them to watch My Faithful Husband in which he is the antagonist. Another mall show ensued at Gaisano Davao with Kylie, Martin and Julian, stars of the afternoon soap Buena Familia.
Meanwhile, another big festivity the south celebrated was the Higalaay Festival in the “City of Golden Friendship,” Cagayan de Oro. Rumored real life couple Dennis and Jennylyn packed in the fans at Centrio Ayala Mall who noted the couple’s closeness both on and off stage. One audience member enthused, “No wonder their scenes in My Faithful Husband seem so real.”
Meanwhile, Kylie, Martin and Julian returned to Mindanao and joined the Tuna Festival fever in General Santos City as they gamely performed for huge crowds at the fiesta.
“GMA Network has always been an active partner of key Philippine cities in promoting the best of and in the Filipino, and we are happy that, through our Kapuso events, we help make these events more festive and colorful each year,” rounded up Oliver Amoroso, head of Regional Strategy and Business Development Division. “Expect more of our artists visiting all parts of the country in the weeks and months to come.”
