Presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo is being branded as the “Donald Trump of the Philippines.”
This was the observation made by former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. after he was asked about Duterte and Trump, who are eyeing the presidency of their respective countries next year.
Brillantes said he knows Duterte very well since the mayor was his former student at the San Beda College of Law.
Trump, vying for the Republican nomination for US President, is known for his seemingly reckless words, railing against Mexicans crossing the US border and then against Muslims, whose visa applications, he said, should be screened tightly.
In a phone interview, Brillantes said Duterte’s statements that are considered controversial including those where the Davao City mayor admits being a womanizer, a killer and a Pope Francis hater are what make him a “head turner.”
