JUSTICE Secretary Leila de Lima, clad in the Liberal Party’s (LP) signature yellow blouse with black stripes and scarf, attended Friday’s gathering of the group at the Club Filipino, an indication that, indeed, she is seeking an electoral post in 2016.
De Lima is said to be among those being eyed to fill up the administration’s senatorial slate. In a private survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations in June but was not released for publication, the Justice chief is included in the top 12 list of preferred candidates for senators.
The Justice chief’s reported political plans drew negative reactions from her long-time “nemesis,” Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte and de Lima had been clashing over alleged human rights abuses committed by the local executive.
Besides party stalwarts and die hards, showbiz personalities also attended the “anointment” ceremonies by President Benigno Aquino 3rd for Interior and Local Governments Secretary Mar Roxas 2nd.
