Philippine Swimming League (PSL) President Susan Papa has appointed multi-titled coach Virgilio De Luna as Regional Director for Southern Tagalog Region-A to oversee the grassroots development program in the region.
De Luna steered the Quezon Killer Whales to numerous titles in the PSL Leg Series as well as guiding some swimmers in international tournaments including in the Royal Bang-kok Swimming Meet and the Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship.
“He’s a very good coach and has a lot to offer in terms of sharing knowledge in swimming. They’re [Quezon Killer Whales] consistent in our monthly competitions. He has produce a number of good young swimmers,” said Papa.
De Luna is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Enverga University. He took masters degree in Educational Management at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.
He started coaching in 2009 with only 10 swimmers and now he has already 70 swimmers. He was a former member of the Philippine Swimming Incorporated swimming team from 1991 to 1999 and as coach from 2002 to 2008.
“He has been PSL national coach for last three years. He will be one of the coaches in World Universiade Games in Gwangju, korea 2015. We are happy for coach Virgie his hard work is paying off, we see more future for him coming in the field of swimming sports,” added Papa.
The Quezon Killer Whales will be hosting the 67th edition of the PSL Leg Series on September 27 to 28 in Lucena City.
The PSL is the national sports association for swimming of the Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines . It has the longest running swimming grassroots development program in the country. The PSL is also an affiliate to Federation International Sports University .
The PSL will be going to Roxas City in Capiz for the staging of the 66th Leg Series. It will also serve as tryout for the 2014 edition of the Royal Bangkok Swimming Meet in November.
