Veteran forward Ranidel De Ocampo carried Talk ‘N Text to a 108-103 come-from-behind win over Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings to barge into the win column in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 42 Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
When Moala Tautuaa and Jeth Troy Rosario fouled out in fourth canto, the former Saint Francis De Assisi College forward took charge in crunch time, scoring a game-tying three-pointer, a go-ahead basket and then executing a crucial pass to Kelly Williams to give the Texters their first win in two games.
“It feels good to finally get a win,” said Talk ‘N Text assistant coach Josh Reyes during the post game interview. “This is still coach Nash’s team. Coach Nash (Racela) is focused on Far Eastern University because it’s our commitment to them that we’ll not handle TNT until the season is over.”
De Ocampo piled up 15 of his 22 points in the last canto plus seven rebounds and four assists, while Larry Fonacier and rookie Roger Pogoy made 15 points apiece, Rosario and Tautuaa added 12 points each. Williams and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
“He’s on the sidelines giving me reminders,” Reyes added. “I want to give credit to the whole team, the other assistant coaches, the players, the whole team for trusting this whole process. Similar to us they haven’t had much practice yet. We had to make a lot of adjustments defensively.”
LA Tenorio led Governors’ Cup champion Barangay Ginebra with 27 points and six assists.
