A Malaysian was recently arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for trying to smuggle 4.6 kilos of cocaine.
The arrest was made possible with the help of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Office at the US Embassy in Manila. The DEA received information that a traveler aboard a flight from Togo, transiting Addis Ababa, was suspected to be carrying contraband.
The DEA shared the tip with the NAIA-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Auhorities pounced on the Malaysian, Nasruddin Bin Mohd Kasnan, 25, and found the drugs, in pellet form, hidden inside cans of chocolates.
The cocaine, valued at P25 million, was turned over to the PDEA.
In October this year, at least five foreigners and a Filipino who came from Brazil were also arrested at the NAIA for carrying cocaine.
