Death toll in collision at sea rises to 71

The Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday said six more bodies were recovered in Friday’s ship collision, bringing the death toll to 71.

The Coast Guard said 750 passengers and crew from the MV St. Thomas Aquinas have been rescued, leaving only 49 missing.

Coast Guard divers on Wednesday morning retrieved the bodies of four adult females, one male child, and one female child.

The St. Thomas Aquinas collided with the MV Sulpicio Express 7 cargo ship last August 16. The ferry, which was carrying 870 people, sank a few minutes later.
