The death toll from floods triggered by the low-pressure area (LPA) embedded along intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) since late July rose to eight while damage to property has breached the P1-billion mark in the area of Visayas and Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday.
In its update, the NDRRMC said most of the fatalities died due to drowning, while 21 persons got injured and one still missing.
The NDRRMC added the floods had affected 100,632 families or 503,122 individuals.
At least 39 houses were destroyed while 147 other homes were damaged.
The NDRRMC estimated the damage brought by the floods at about P1,569,977,020.50, including P68.55 million damage in infrastructure and P1,501,427,020.50 in agriculture in Western Visayas, and Regions 9 (Zamboanga Penisula) and 12 (Soccskargen)
The NDRRMC added the cost of assistance for the affected families has currently reached P9,272,673. PNA
