The four teams of Makati Football Club put up decent finishes in three age groups of the Gothia Cup 2017, which ended over the weekend in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Following their victorious group stage campaigns, the Philippine representatives reached the playoffs in Boys’ 13, Boys’ 12 and Boys’ 11 divisions of the tournament tagged as the “World Youth Cup”.?
Makati FC Boys’ 13 blanked Sweden’s BK Flagg, 2-0, en route to posting a 1-2-0 win-draw-loss record to dominate Group 1 with five points. However, the teenage booters lost to Orebro Syrianska IF, 2-4, and wound up with a place in round of 32. ?
The Makati-based club’s two squads in the Boys’ 12 showed satisfactory results in their age category. ?
Team 1 finished second in Group 1 with a 2-1-0 slate but narrowly missed in moving past round of 64 following a 3-4 defeat to CA Intercups Mexico. ?
Team 2, on the other hand, topped Group 28 with seven points on a 2-1-0 card. It ended its campaign in round of 32 after a 0-4 setback to England’s Prep School Pumas 1. ?
In Boys’ 11, the young Filipinos trounced United State’s AYSO Region 69, 4-0, and beat Sweden’s Mossens BK, 4-2, to notch the second place in Group 1. ?
They then proceeded to the round of 32, where they got overwhelmed by IF Brommapojkarna P06 1 with a score of 1-11. ?
This year’s edition of the 42-year old competition hosted 1,763 teams from 82 countries.
