An official of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Thursday said they cannot easily decongest ports in Manila but assured the public that they are doing their best to solve the congestion as “quickly as possible.”
According to BOC spokeswoman Charo Logarta, said “many factors” contributing to the port congestion are “beyond the control of the BOC.“
Logarta, however, did not mention any factor.
Decongesting the ports would be completed by January next year, Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo said during a budget hearing conducted by the Senate committee on finance on Wednesday.
That “prognosis” made by Domingo, Logarta said, is “unfortunate.”
Domingo noted that there are 78, 000 shipping containers stuck in the Manila ports but only 4, 500 containers are taken out of the ports daily.
