FOUR-peat champion San Beda College Red Lions displayed their full might as they crushed the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags, 75-56, on Friday to regain solo leadership in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament elimination round at the San Juan Arena in San JuanCity.
What was expected to be close game between the two archrivals turned out to be a resounding win by San Beda. The Red Lions expressed dominance early by posting a 27-7 lead in the first quarter. Anthony Semerad started the blitz with 13 points highlighted by a triple seriously hampering the Stags’ offense. And with 6’8 Ola Adeogun manning the slot, the Red Lions held the Stags to only six-of-33 in the field goal while hitting 15-of-37 in the first half establishing a huge 38-16 lead in the first two quarters.
The Australian Semerad led San Beda with 19 points including three triples while Arthur de la Cruz finished with 14. San Beda now has a 6-1 card although the Arellano University Chiefs could tie the Red Lions if they win against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers. The Bombers and the Chiefs were still playing at press time.
Meanwhile, the Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates will seek for their fifth win when they take on the College of Saint Benilde (CSB) Blazers at 2:30 p.m. today at the San Juan Arena. A win by the Pirates over the Blazers will streng–then their hold of the fourth spot. Coach Gabby Velasco’s Blazers currently hold a 3-3 record.
In the lone secondary game at 12 noon, the Lyceum Junior Pirates face the CSB Greenies. The Greenies are currently bearing a 2-4 record and are occupying the sixth spot with the San Sebastian Staglets while the Junior Pirates are just a notch behind carrying 2-5 record.
