Beleaguered University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers coach Bong Dela Cruz, through a press statement denied accusations that he maltreated and harassed some of his wards.
“I would like to tell everyone that all those allegations against me are not true. I decided to remain silent because I thought these controversy would just die naturally,” said Dela Cruz in Filipino. “I feel it is worsening everyday. They are not only destroying my reputation as coach but also my entire personality.”
“It really saddens me because my family is also affected by this trial by publicity,” he added. “Everybody know what time and effort I spent with this team. In fact, nobody believes that we can reach the Final Four before the UAAP Season 78 started. But through the unity of the players and the coaching staff, we made it to the championship round.”
UST, however, lost to the Far Eastern University in Game 3 of the championship round last season.
“I’m hoping that the name of our university would not be dragged into this issue against me. I will formally air my side through the proper forum soon and I’m hoping everybody will respect my decision.”
According to reports, Dela Cruz will remain as coach of UST while an investigation is ongoing. The school though ordered him to stop from holding practices during the time of investigation.
