Dengue hits 11 public school pupils

ALICIA, Isabela: Residents here are blaming the public school’s fishpond as the breeding ground of the dengue virus-carrying mosquitoes that has affected at least 11 pupils.

The Alicia Elementary School pupils are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in the municipality and in adjoining Echague town as well as Santiago City.

Two of the dengue victims were identified as Frances Orpilla and Carlo Morillo who, according to reports, were positively diagnosed with the dreaded dengue virus.

Dengue is a deadly viral disease spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito with usual symptoms such as extreme high fever, nausea, vomiting and skin rashes.

However, school authorities said that, the school children might have acquired the virus in their residences or elsewhere since the school year only started last week.
