COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DENR-ARMM) will plant one million trees in Maguindanao this month, imed to reduce the effects of climate change in the region. Kahal Kedtag, DENR-ARMM said the seedlings and can reforest up to 50,000 hectares of land, in line with the National Greening Program. Watersheds in Dimapatoy, South Upi and Kabulnan are the priority areas to be planted. The ARMM has a total of 585,000 hectares of forest land. Governor Mujiv Hataman earlier imposed a total log ban in the region through Executive Order 001 in December 2011. The order prohibits the cutting of trees in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
