MANGATAREM, Pangasinan: Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Regina Lopez has approved the request of the provincial government to make urgent improvements in the Manlelueg Hot Spring here.
Lopez conducted an inspection of the hot spring, a major tourist destination on invitation of Governor Amado Espino 3rd and announced her approval of the plan to develop the hot spring.
She instructed the DENR Region I director to immediately issue an Environmental Compliance Certificate and other permits needed by the developers.
The area is government-owned; it will cater to hotels and restaurants that the developer will construct. No rental fees will be collected by the DENR.
Espino said he was requested by the municipality of Mangatarem to search for a developer who will undertake the project since the local government does not have enough funds to finance the development of Manlelueg Hot Spring.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has passed a resolution requesting DENR’s approval of the project. The DENR approval was necessary because some of the ancient trees surrounding the area will be affected in the expansion.
